Can you use heat on your hair if you have alopecia?

I have alopecia and i was wondering whether it is 'safe' to apply heat onto my hair by using hair straighteners for example. Is it still safe to use hair dyes and things like that, i would just like to know the basics of do's and don'ts ! , thankyou !
