DHT stands for Dihydrotestosterone which is the resulting product of direct contact between the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, found in the skin and the scalp, with the hormone testosterone.

DHT binds to the androgen receptors in your hair follicles and this in turn causes miniaturization of the hair follicles. An increase of DHT level can kill the follicles totally, thus hair loss and baldness occur.
