Introduction To Dht And Hair Loss

DHT-caused hair loss goes hand in hand with other triggering aspects. Heredity may be considered and cutting off of blood supply may also contribute to this particular event. The treatments may be done in cases necessary.

DHT is said to be the primary cause of hair loss in both men and women. This condition is sometimes called Androgenetic Alopecia. The effect of DHT may be genetic in origin. Too much DHT in the body may also lead to enlarged prostate in men.

DHT binds to the androgen receptors in your hair follicles and this in turn causes miniaturization of the hair follicles. An increase of DHT level can kill the follicles totally, thus hair loss and baldness occur.

Causes of DHT hair loss

a hair loss manHair loss in men and women can be attributed to hormonal changes in their body. The alterations in the metabolism of androgen in our body can also be one reason. Androgen is the male hormone that plays an important role both in hair loss and hair growth. When the metabolism of androgen gets involve with the enzyme 5AR, it tends to combine with the testosterone to produce DHT. This DHT is the natural metabolite of the human body that causes hair loss.

Dermal Papilla is the most important structure of the hair follicle, which is responsible for hair growth.  Dermal papilla cells divides and differentiates to form a new hair follicle. This cell is the one responsible in deriving nutrients for hair follicle growth, since it has a direct contact with the blood capillaries of the skin.

When DHT reaches the hair follicle and dermal papilla, it tends to prevent proteins, vitamins, and minerals from providing the needed nourishment of the hair follicles. If our hair follicles are undernourished, it either shortens its growing phase or lengthens its resting stage. It is very important for a person to have proper nutrition to maintain good hair development and growth.

The wax like substance around the hair roots and the accumulation of DHT in the hair follicles and roots is one of the causes of male and female pattern hair loss. The cutting off of the blood supply to the hair follicles is also critical to the growth of new hair. If this happen, the thinning and baldness process begins.

Introduction to DHT hair loss treatments

There are some products in the market that are called DHT Blockers and DHT Inhibitors. These products help in reducing the production of DHT, by interfering with how the testosterone interacts with the enzyme called 5AR. DHT blockers and inhibitors blocks or inhibit the DHT to bind with the androgen receptors.

The treatment for DHT-caused hair loss may rely upon these so-called inhibitors or blockers. But in order for you to understand things more, there are certain substances and cures that will surely help you go a long way. These topics will be discussed in other articles under this chapter. You might just see the products that are right for you.
