Hair loss in men is different from hair loss in women as they may be more severe. It is important to take note of some famous products in the market together with surgical approaches for severe cases. Cosmetic approaches might as well help.
Men and women alike suffer hair loss problems. In men's cases, others do not go bald, but every one of them can encounter hair thinning which is caused by both hormonal and genetic factors. The genetic make-up that was passed to you by both of your parents will help determine if you are going to get bald in the future or not.
There are some myths and misconceptions that are being tagged as the culprit in the hair loss problem. Some says that wearing hats can prevent hair roots to grow properly, thus promoting baldness.
It is of great help if you will undergo a thorough check up at the onset of hair loss. Having an expert evaluate your hair and scalp will help you determine whether you do not have any problem with your hair.
Hair loss in men products
There are a lot of products that are out in the market claiming to help in the regrowth of hair and there are also some procedures being advertised that helps in maintaining good scalp conditions and healthy looking hair. But all of these are not worthy of your money and time. These products do not really eradicate hair loss. They are only slowing down the process. The only two products that have been medically proven to help in slowing down the process of hair loss are:
• Minoxidil (Rogaine). This is a product that can be bought over the counter. It is available in 2% and 5 % formulations that could be applied topically to the entire head. This drug should be applied twice a day and it should be used continuously for a better result. The external side effects of this drug are irritation and growing of hair on the face. The internal side effects, on the other hand, include headaches, swelling of the ankle and chest pain.
• Finasteride (Propecia). This drug is taken once a day and is known to reduce hair loss while providing possibilities for hair growth. This also works at its best in men who still have enough hair. The common side effects of this treatment usually involve sexual capacities. Propecia is taken orally, that is why men prefer this kind of medication over that of Rogaine.
Other treatments
Aside from medical treatments, there are also various ways to cover up hair that has shredded. Some of these cover ups include cosmetic approaches like hair weaving and wearing of hair pieces.
Over the years, there are some surgical procedures that have been developed to combat hair loss. Experts in hair loss use scalp reduction and hair transplant to cover up balding spots. They use genetically programmed hair that will not fall out over the years. After a hair transplant procedure, using propecia is recommended to maximize the treatment.
