Understanding Male Pattern Baldness

Male pattern baldness is one of the most severe cases of hair loss. This is usually hereditary and could not be prevented unless you go for higher level treatments.

If your hair disappears gradually from the temple to your crown while there are still more left at the back  and sides of your head, you are experiencing a male-pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia.  The most common factor that is being connected to male-pattern baldness is genetics.  If your male relatives on both sides of the family have male-pattern baldness, you too will most likely suffer the same fate with them.

Male pattern baldness

Baldness is a set of disorder that involves state of falling hair where it would normally grow, especially on the head.  The extreme nature of this condition can be classified into male or female pattern-baldness or alopecia areata.  Treating this type of hair loss problem has a limited success.  The more you lose hair, the more unsuccessful you will be in treating this type of hair condition.

It is easier to prevent the onset and falling out of healthy hair than to develop the re-growth of hair follicles that are already dormant.  However, there are products sold in the market today that promises a good result in reversing the hair loss problem.

Causes of male pattern baldness

Men go bald for different  reasons that could turn out to complexities.  The most common culprits of this condition are genetics, hormonal imbalance and malnutrition.  One of the possible factors that contribute to male pattern baldness is the excessive production of chemical in the body called sebum.  Sebum has a large amount of DHT levels that can clog the pores of the scalp thus destroying the hair follicles.

Other causes that can trigger your male-pattern baldness are certain medical conditions and treatments like fungal infections, prolonged fever, thyroid diseases, malnutrition and chemotherapy.  These medical conditions and treatments lead to hair thinning all over your head, not just on top of it.

Treatments for male pattern baldness

Until now the only possible solution to hair thinning condition is the use of Rogaine.  This is a scalp lotion that you can rub unto your scalp twice a day to reverse the effect of thinning hair.  This solution contains a small amount of minoxidil which  helps in stopping the hair follicle to shrink.  You can also try using propecia, a prescription drug that can be alternated with minoxidil.  The finasteride content of propecia lowers the production of the DHT hormone which is one of the main causes of male-pattern baldness.

There are still some alternative remedies that you can use that have hair growing properties, but  all of them are still under study.  There are also some kinds of herbs that can help in reversing the hair thinning problem.

The hair restoration procedure is a more permanent solution to male-pattern baldness.  Restored hair through hair transplantation techniques usually looks like your original hair appearance.  But this process is very expensive.  It will cost you over a thousand dollars per session.

Male-pattern baldness has affected men even before they were born.  Men had attempted to treat their baldness by a lot of available treatments they can get.  But the proper diagnosis of the hair loss problem is the key to a good and successful solution to the hair loss predicament.
