Cancer patients are affected by hair loss. The solution they could adapt to avoid hair loss is through the cosmetic approaches. Hairpieces may be well taken care of by following some tips and steps on the hair loss product.
Women who suffer hair loss because of chemotherapy and radiation choose to wear wigs or cover their head with some head coverings like scarves and hats. You have to remember, though, that your hair loss after chemotherapy session is only temporary, although you may not regain the same texture and color of hair after this treatment.
Some women opt to wear wigs when their hair starts to fall out, after the completion of their chemotherapy session. Many times, women who buy wigs for their head covering, oftentimes regret it because of its expensive cost due to maintenance, especially if the wig is made from natural hair. Synthetic wigs, though, can be bought at a lesser price and is much easier to maintain.
What to do with your cosmetic hair loss product
Take a picture of your present hair style, so that you may remember how it looks after the chemotherapy session. Save a small amount of your cut hair from the front of your head as this will serve as your guide in choosing the right kind of wig you will wear.
To decide whether your wig matches the color of your hair sample, see it through a natural light or outdoor light. Measure your head with your smooth hair down, to acquire a perfect measurement for your wig. You have to make sure that your wig is adjustable as you may not have the same size head measurement after you lose your hair. To maintain the proper care for your wigs, you can follow some of the tips listed below:
• Avoid dying your wig. Exposing it to the heat especially if it is a synthetic wig can melt the glue on it. Dry your wig on a portable wig strand dryer, rather than drying it through the use of hair blower. By drying it on the wig stand dryer, the air will freely circulate through the wig without blowing away the conditioner you applied on it.
• Shampoo the wig regularly. Use only the prescribed wig shampoo and other special wig care products in taking care of your wig. Wigs should be washed only every ten to fourteen days, if used daily. Use wig luster for your wigs to maintain its original look, after several washes.
• Store them properly. Wigs should always be stored on a wig stand not in a plastic bag or container.
Your wig can also be styled just like your natural hair. It can look like your natural hair if you will always tuck it up behind your ears. You may also ask your hair dresser to trim the bangs of your wig, that it may resemble your natural hair. If your wig is short, use only your fingertips in brushing it, instead of using a hair brush. Styling your wig is just like styling your natural hair, the only difference is you have to use special wig products that are designed for it only, and this will cost you a lot more of your money.
