Inherited Hair Loss: Treatments And Considerations

One of the usual causes of hair loss is hereditary in nature. This condition is also known as androgenetic alopecia. For most of us, this is just so bothering especially when we see the thinning hair line of our parents and other members of the family. Sometimes, we just have to accept things as they are but if we want to make a turnaround from the effects, there are ways to cope up.

Treatment for inherited hair loss may be done and the medication basically aims at preventing hair loss itself. For those who have shiny heads caused by baldness, there are also solutions for you and for those whose problems are associated with thinning hair lines, hair growing is possible.

Inherited hair loss treatments

man hair loss taking medicationIn your conquest to fight hair loss caused by heredity, there are several important medications to add up in your list. Any of the following two things may be taken accordingly:

• Minoxidil. This is actually a spray or lotion that is available over the counter, meaning, there is no need for prescription. The product can be sprayed over the affected area twice a day. This product usually increases the hair follicles while thickening the hair shafts and is recommended for both genders. If you are prone to skin irritations however, the product is not prescribed. The tendency is you may have an itchy scalp and for women, hair growth may extend up to the facial area.

• Finasteride. Unlike the minoxidil, this pill needs doctor’s prescription. This medication is exclusively recommended for men though as it causes side effects on the opposite sex. The pill is taken once a day and is known to lower down the androgen level which is a cause of hair loss.  It is proven to be a successful hair remedy for men as it slows down hair loss while helping promote hair growth.

Considerations for inherited hair loss treatment

Medications as we all know may have side effects no matter how effective it is. This is a known fact and disadvantages should be weighed before taking anything in. You see, there are no known effects of not taking any of these two mentioned treatments. The results may be more transparent when you start including them in your daily regimen.

One of the possible consequences of these therapies is the fact that despite taking them religiously, for some unknown reasons, it may not work. Accept that fact since our bodies adapt to medications on different levels. Do not expect too much as there is no guarantee that you will regain the look of your hair.

Taking the medication should be done on a daily basis. Once you stop your dosage, the tendency is that your regrown hair will also fall out of place. The worse scenario is that you may even lose more hair than before you considered treatment. Be very keen to follow every instruction and if your reason to stop is because you experienced some irritation, go immediately to your doctor and express your concerns.
