Diagnosing Hair Loss In Women

Measuring hair loss may be done in several ways. Did you know that you can do it on your own? You may also seek the help of your doctors for extremely severe cases.

There are several ways by which hair loss may be measured. Tests may be physically done, meaning by way of doing things yourself. Other diagnosis however may be done by consulting your doctor who will administer the exams for you.

Basic diagnosing step

Diagnosing Hair LossThe pull test is a way of testing hair loss and is patterned after shampoo commercials for hair fall control. This is done by pulling the hair gently and firmly through putting your fingers in between approximates of 60 strands. A normal hair would usually result to about eight strand falls from the pulling process. Should the results show about 15 hair falls, which is quite alarming.

Diagnosing the causes of hair loss in women

Telogen Effluvium is a state when there are more follicles which are moved into a resting state. This kind of hair loss can also be associated with childbirth or change in hormonal birth control. The side effects of emotional and physical stress can also trigger telogen effluvium.

The hair loss during menstrual cycle or during pre-and-post menopausal periods can resolve itself naturally. This is simply because it is a common experience among women in their age.

Hair loss that is caused by stress can be prevented by taking vitamins and food supplements that will help boost hair growth. But a tender loving care (TLC) for the hair is the best way to prevent hair problems.

Testing for more severe hair loss in women

Experiencing male patterned baldness in women may also be probable though it may sound ironic. Sensitivity to androgens may be made through some tests which involves testosterones, thyroids, and at some point considering insulin resistance as well as any malfunction in metabolism. The following are some of the tests the doctors may recommend:

• Hormone and thyroid status testing. This includes the hormone panel while trying to look into the testosterone level.
• Metabolic panel. This is done to associate hair loss to kidney and liver functions.
• Fasting insulin test. This process basically looks after reasons for hair loss as associated with any flaw in the sugar or glucose level of a person.
• Ferritin stores. The iron is scientifically known as ferum, hence this process is to test iron deficiency to hair loss problems.
• Hematological panel. This is a testing method for testing blood levels which may also lead to hair loss.
• Allergy testing. This is usually done through patch tests to ensure that allergies will not occur before giving any medication.

Conventional doctors have a wide range of test results that they consider normal. Anything below or above the normal level, or even at the edge of normal is considered not conducive to good health. Hair loss may occur in any person, whether male or female. It is important to consider the causes before having your condition diagnosed by medical experts. They will readily offer help for your concerns.
