Menopause And Oral Contraceptives And Women Hair Loss

Hair loss in women may be caused by menopause and the use of oral contraceptives. What are hormonal contraceptives for women which may trigger the problem? What are the things you need to know about menopause?

Oral contraceptives have become one of the most popular forms of birth control used today. Millions of women use oral contraceptives, but very few are aware that these birth control pills are the common cause of hair loss, for many who use them. Women are then advised to be aware of the devastating effects of these birth control pills in the normal growth of their hair.

The following are hormonal contraceptives that contribute in the exacerbating hair loss:

• Implants. Progestin is a hormone that can be used for these implants. They may be good to enhance downward physical appearance but thinning of the hair may be a problem.
• Hormonal shots. This process is done by injection of progestin to the muscles of the upper arms or buttocks in order to prevent ovulation.
• Skin Patch. The patch is known to release progestin and estrogen by way of placing them on the shoulder and buttocks and other surfaces in the body.
• Vaginal Ring. This is a two-diameter ring inserted in the vagina and just like the other mentioned contraceptives it also releases estrogen and progestin.

Menopause and hair loss in women

Menopause is a condition by which a woman ends menstruation. This is a time that totally diminishes and ceases monthly periods and they usually occur anytime around the ages of 45 to 50.

During this particular stage, hormonal imbalance takes place in the woman’s body for the nth time. It may be hard to deal with this state but it is important to address this properly. Feelings become uncontrollable and depression may just get in the way. No matter what happens however, it is important to address the situation. It then becomes a choice between hair loss and menopause.

To help you understand menopause and hair loss, consider how changes in the body could lead to the latter. During this condition, women tend to have extremely high levels of androgen circulation in the body. Note also that insulin resistance may be a problem. Both of these things are factors to hair loss.

Addressing these problems to avoid hair loss

Hair loss problem in women which are triggered by both oral contraceptives and menopause need to be addressed and understood. Please be very cautious about the situations and prepare for possible changes.

Hormonal contraceptives are good for birth control while menopause is a condition you can not avoid.  While you could control the use of hormonal contraceptives to avoid hair loss, it is advised to consult your health provider and pose questions regarding other changes that may occur in the body. Be straightforward about asking for responses to hair fall. Do the same when you are about to enter the menopausal stage. You may also start by reading books and browsing the net for information about these things.
