Other Treatments For Hair Loss In Women

After discussing to you some recommended treatments for female androgenitic alopecia, female telogen effluvium and female alopecia areata, we could now go to other treatments available in the market. Feel free to browse the topics under this page.

There is no known guarantee to the treatments for hair loss in women.  We must understand that they make work only up to a certain level and results may finally be down to how we administer the treatments.  Daily dosage is sometimes required and to a larger extend you need to work things out for several months before actually getting the percentage of the effective results.

A systematic treatment is not at all going to the better end of it all.  Physicians would not require this unless they really know what the hair loss is all about.  Androgenetic treatments may not seem to work at a good outcome that is why doctors would rather go for the topical treatments.

The length of stay of androgentic alopecia may be extended only after an extensive treatment had been undertaken.  With all due respect to all these treatments, they are effective, but sometimes the patient may not have the results they want.  This is because they neglect their duties under the medication process.  It is also important to note that these treatments should be supplemented by vitamins and minerals to make you see the outcome.

Below is a list of other treatments currently being used to treat hair loss in women.  Women attribute a lot of their regain of self-esteem from the use of any of the following:

• Minoxidil 2%.  We have previously discussed the 5% formulation of minoxidil.  This 2% type is a topical ointment which was first used in tablet form to treat incidences of high blood pressure.  Along this line, patients noticed that they have excessive growth of hair after using the product.  Since then, it has been recommended for hair loss treatments.

•  Tagamet.   This particular medication was administered for treatment of stomach ulcers.  However, in the long run it was seen to have anti-androgenetic effects which extend to DHT hair loss in women.  Hair follicles grew largely in number after undergoing this treatment.

• Cyproterone Acetate.  This drug was known to mainly reduce sex drive in men.  Studies show, however, that hair loss in women could be treated as the product directs its effect on forming a bond between DHT and its receptors.

• Estrogen/Progesterone.  This are commonly found components of oral contraceptive pills.  They are oftentimes recommended for menopause associated hair loss in women.

• Propecia/Proscar.  It was found out that this drug works effectively in most men but in some cases it could also work for the hair loss in women.  This is not prescribed for pregnant women though as it may cause some birth defects, neither is it recommended if you are planning to have a baby.

• Ethinyloestradiol.  This product should be used on an ongoing basis despite seeing favorable outcome within one year of use.  Once you stop using this product, you might encounter some problems of regrowing your hair.

All these treatments may work properly if you do it by virtue of following your doctor’s advice.  Do not ever attempt to cheat on the treatment as it will cause you more trouble.  Otherwise, you may have to spend more by undergoing surgical treatments.
