Treatment For Hair Loss In Women I (female Androgenetic Alopecia)

Hair loss treatments for women vary depending upon your hair loss type. In this article, we will be discussing hair loss treatments for female androgenetic alopecia.

Woman with Alopecia AreataAfter gathering information by means of self-assessment and through undergoing a series of exams, the right treatments and medications can now be given to the hair loss patient.  Please take note that some treatments may either lessen the problem or make them appear worse.  Total recovery can be achieved only if you follow the rules and by taking into account the type of hair loss you have.

Treatments for female androgenetic alopecia

As previously discussed, the first type of female hair loss is the androgentic alopecia.  Treatments recommended under this condition are the following:

• Anti-androgen treatments.  As we all know, too much androgen secretion would lead to all types of hair losses.  For the female version, it is prescribed that you consider some of the forgoing recommendations:

o Flutamide.  This 250-mg tablet should be taken three times a day or as per doctor’s advice.

o Cimetidine.  This tablet of 300-mg formulation is taken in larger doses than flutamide.  You need to take cimetidine at least five times a day.

o Dexamethasone.  This requires a single dosage of at least .25 mg to .75 mg taken during night time.

o Cyproterone Acetate.  This tablet should be at least administered to at most 150 mg. per day.  If you have a 50 mg. tablet available, this means you have to take it three times for the day.

o Leuprolid.  This is an intravenous or formulation which should be taken at least at a dose of 3.75 mg per month.  It also requires a portion of estrogen ingestion and the so-called medroxyprogesterone acetate to be taken in for the first 12 days of the month.

o Nafarelin.  This is an intranasal (within the nose) intake which can be compared to your usual nasal congestion reliefs but should be ingested two times a day only as it is not for medication of colds.   A one-month cycle (28 day) Nironyl tablet should be taken orally along with this medication.  The second one follows the pattern of taking oral contraceptive pills.

• Growth Stimulants.  These are products that are more effective in treating hair loss in women.  Most of the time, they combat hair loss on a better state than that of anti-androgen treatments.  Some of the products with this content are:

o Nizoral Shampoo.  Yes, this anti-dandruff shampoo is also helpful in addressing the hair loss problem.  The 1% formulation could be used twice a week.

o Crinagen, Proxiphen or Folligen.  These are topical treatments containing growth stimulants for your hair.

Be advised that the above products should be taken religiously until your physician advises you to stop doing so.  The process of regrowing the hair may take too long but at least after several months, you could notice results.  What you need here is a lot of money, patience and determination should you really want to fight your hair loss problems.
