Have you ever wondered how great sulphur could be to treat hair loss problems? Do you know what the sources of sulphur are? Preventing hair loss could be done by eating sulphur-rich food and by using some of the plant sources as a natural remedy.
Our hair, skin, and nails have the greatest concentration of sulphur, a mineral found in all the cells of the human body. Sulphur is often regarded as the beauty and healing mineral because of its capability to aid in good blood circulation as well as lessen skin inflammation. It is also considered as a mineral that could help regrow the hair which was lost due to some reasons.
Sources of sulphur
Sulphur can be found in protein-rich foods with high quantity of amino acids, methionine and cysteine. These foods include any of the following: meat, poultry, fish, nuts, eggs and vegetables.
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a chemical component that is added to sulphur to produce nutritional supplements. It is also combined with mineral to process topical creams for hair loss prevention. Researches were conducted and had proven that Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) can be healed by MSM.
DMSO and MSM discussed
Salts from DMSO are products of both organic and inorganic sulphur. This is commonly found in both plankton and algae. Dimethylsulfide, on the other hand is the transformation derived from dimethylsulfonium salts which evaporates into the atmosphere and in turn is transformed by the ultraviolet rays of the sun into dimethylsulfoxide. When DMSO combines with oxygen, it become MSM that is absorbed by plants, and later become the food of humans and animals. The MSM found in food supplements has the same health benefits like DMSO.
MSM is a water-soluble mineral and is considered safe, just like drinking water. People taking this kind of treatment can be assured of no toxicity, even if they will use this for a long period of time. Since MSM is water-soluble, anything that has not been used in the body is flushed out.
MSM and hair loss prevention
Studies showed that people with hair loss problem, experience hair growth after taking MSM. The first symptoms of sulphur deficiency among others are dry skin, and brittle hair and nails. Others include sore joints and muscles, diabetes, headaches, allergies, and fatigue.
Sulphur is not produced by the human body. It must be taken up from plants that were sown in sulphur-rich soil and from the animals that eat them. The National Academy of Sciences has not required daily allowance for sulphur because the adequate amount of protein in our daily diet contains an adequate portion of the mineral. In cases where sulphur is not acquired in our everyday meals, MSM supplement is recommended.
There are sulphur-rich creams that are sold in the market which are used to treat scalp problems. These sulphur-rich topical creams are also used as treatment for seborrheic dermatitis. These topical creams can decrease the overproduction of sebum, while removing the itchy scales on the scalp.
Some of the known herbalists recommend rubbing a half raw onion on the scalp before shampooing. Onions, for a fact, is rich in sulphur that is why it is used as an effective treatment for scalp and hair loss problems.
